These vegan chocolate spice cookies are super delicious. They truly don’t taste vegan at all. My daughter is allergic to eggs and my son is mostly dairy-free, so they are a family staple! The spices really bring out the chocolate flavor and the chocolate chips make them delectable! I have been baking them for years and they are still my favorite cookie to bake (and eat!) They pair amazingly well with a cup of earl grey tea on a cold night.

*** note- the recipe has a mistake- you also need to add 1/4 cup of non dairy milk! I realized this while on vacation and can’t update the recipe form on my cell phone, lol***

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • 2/3 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Mix dry (except the chips) ingredients and wet ingredients separately, then combine.
  • Add chocolate chips
  • Drop by the spoonful and gently press onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
  • Bake at 350 for 10 minutes and let cool before lifting them from the pan.

A few tips:

*Measure the oil (twice) in a 1/4 cup scoop, then when you use the same cup for the maple syrup it will be super easy to clean.

*Never skip the step on combining wet and dry ingredients separately. I used to skip it and then I realized that salt and baking soda would stick together and taste horrible.

*You can exchange the refined sugar for coconut sugar- the cookies will come out with a slight caramel taste and have a different consistency- a bit more cake-like. I prefer the taste of using real sugar, but when I want to feel particularly healthy, I use coconut sugar.

*Obviously, if you don’t care about the cookies being dairy-free you can just use regular milk and whatever brand of chocolate chips that you would like.

*In times of great desperation, I have used water instead of milk. It’s not the same, but it still tastes good.

*Trader Joe’s sells vegan chocolate chips for a very low price. You can also fine them online at stores like iHerb.

I hope you enjoy these vegan chocolate spice cookies! No one will suspect they are vegan! I have made this recipe many, many times and always come back to it.
