Sometimes you need to decorate a cake quickly.

Other times you may not have the tools or skills to craft delectable frosting flowers.

I have both of those problems.

But that is ok because, what is lovelier than actual flowers themselves?

Consequently, I have decided that my personal style is to decorate cakes with edible flowers.

Here are some of my favorite flowers/herbs to use:
Roses
Lavender
Cilantro flowers
Thyme
Violas
Strawberry flowers
Clover

Be sure to check that a flower you are using is edible- even if you are planning on just using the flower for decoration, many are toxic and even lethal. Also, if you are purchasing flowers at a store, be careful as they may have been sprayed with chemicals that aren’t food safe.
But don’t let that turn you off! It is easy to find flowers all over the place in the summer that haven’t been treated with anything but love.
