Cell phone photography has come a long way. There are many photographers on Instagram that primarily use cell phone cameras- and they have hundreds of thousands of followers. Don’t let equipment hold you back from getting started! If you want to appear in any of your photos, I recommend three essential, inexpensive tools. At the time of writing this post (2018), my top five most popular Instagram posts were taken with my cell phone.
P.S. I am using affiliate links and all of the photos in this post are from my cell phone.
- The most essential tool for cell phone photography is a tripod. I’ve been using this one from Amazon. It is light and compact for travel. I can cram it in my (large) purse. I’ve been using it for a year and still love it. I recently bent one of the legs by jamming it into the sand and one of the plastic tips fell of one of the feet, but it still works great. I have used it a LOT.
2. Of course, you are going to need a way of attaching your cell phone to the tripod. I’ve used this mount for over a year and love it.
3. I love love love this remote cell phone timer. I’ve taken a LOT of photos with this remote and have never had a problem with it. The battery will run out eventually (after a lot of use); you can replace the battery. This remote cell phone timer is compatible with iPhones and other Andriod devices.
So that is it! The three cheap photography tools for cell phone photography. I have used them myself for about a year and a half and for thousands of photos. I would like to note that since the start of summer, I have been using my Canon t3i and more recently, my new Canon 6D. I am working on another post for the equipment I use for my DSLR cameras.
