My heart leaps up when I behold
   A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
   Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Window Crystal Sun-catchers

I have a crystal in our window that makes rainbows appear near sunset in the summer. I highly recommend putting a crystal in a window that faces the sun because rainbow hour is magical. You can take lots of fun photographs as the rainbows last for several minutes.

One day, the rainbows made me think of “My Heart Leaps Up” by William Wordsworth. As you can see, it is a beautiful poem, not only about rainbows, but of aging and life. I took the photo by placing the book under one of the rainbows- no photoshop. I took several other photos, using the stationary rainbows as a backdrop.

“The rainbows are here!” is one of the sweetest things to hear my kids exclaim. We all look forward to it. If you want to add a beautiful rainbow crystal to your home, you can find them here and here. Just remember that it has to face the sun properly. The window that we keep it in does not get full sun during winter, so we do not have rainbows in that room year round. I’m ok with that- it gives me something extra to look forward to in the summer.

If you would like, you could place crystals in several windows to make rainbows last much longer during the day. Crystal sun-catchers come in many sizes and colors, so be sure to check them out.
